S A R X

"Truly, Truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him."
John 6:53-56

When Christ says these words in the Gospel of Saint John, the word which we translate as "flesh" is the Greek word, SARX: Literally the substance of the living body, that which encases bones and is saturated with blood.

To this very day, as preserved in the Mass, the majority of Christians on Earth still take this statement for what says, as Tradition has dictated, just as all Christians believed for the first one thousand five hundred years since the Ascension of Christ.

Just as the audacity of this statement bursts forth from the wounds of Christ on the Cross, just as blood and water ran from the sides of both the old and the New temples, so does it also burst forth from the altar, from the monstrance, from the tabernacle today. Maintaining the accidents of bread and wine, the works of our hands become, through the words and actions of Jesus Christ, true flesh, but true food. True blood, but true drink. Sustenance for the journey.

In the unchanging teaching of the Catholic Church, built on Peter, the rock, we find these truths crystallized forever. A frozen flood of constant renewal. An immovable foundation for a perpetual revolution
